The registration form and fee must be submitted at time of registration. You do not need to bring a utility bill or birth certificate. You do not have to be a city resident to play. We do not verify birth certificates. However, we do ask that your child actually be of the appropriate age. If we did have a valid concern, we may request a birth certificate for verification.
Pictures will be taken during the season but this will be an additional fee and there is a variety of packages to choose from. The packages start at $20.
Following registration, team rosters will be compiled and all players will be contacted by their respective coaches in May and we have a Parent’s Meeting at the Smyrna Community Center in May. If you are not contacted by your coach for some reason, email info@smyrnatball.com.
Each team will play practice once per week. The practice times are normally at 6:15 or 7:30 PM on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Primarily, games are played on Saturday during the day. You may have a few evening games.
You will have a rotating practice and game schedule which will be posted on the website and distributed at the parent's meeting and by the coaches in May.
The games last approximately 1 hour. The games last four innings, with each player playing all four innings in the field, and batting twice. Half of the players will bat each inning.
The coaches will pitch (soft toss, underhand) to their team. Each player will be given three swings to try and hit the ball in fair territory. The ball is then placed on the tee and the player may advance to first after hitting the ball in fair territory. Typically, outs are not recorded and each player advances from base-to-base until each player scores. There are no umpires and score is not kept.
Many times the parents assist the coach in coaching a base, helping to keep the kids in the dugout, running the batting order, etc. If you are able to assist with this, please let the coaches know.
All equipment is provided by the league. You may purchase and bring an individual bat or batting helmet. This is not required.
Your child will need a glove and athletic shoes. Tennis shoes or cleats of any type, including soccer cleats, are fine.
It is helpful if you bring your child water to drink at practice and during the game. Some of the fields do not have concessions or vending machines.
Please label all individual belongings.
Your Coach or Team Coordinator may request that you provide drinks/snacks after the game. This is normally only asked one time.
At the end of July, we will have a League Party. It is a very special day. This is the day your child will receive his or her trophy. This will be held in the Smyrna area
The Coach and Team Coordinator is the central point for information. If you have questions during the season, that is the person you should contact. However, you can always email us atinfo@smyrnatball.com,, with any questions or concerns.
The City of Smyrna oversees the league and provides the fields / facilities. The league is completely self-funded by the registration fees. All board members, coaches, team coordinators and other that assist, do so on a volunteer basis.
Last but certainly not least, please ensure you stay at the games and practices and watch your children. There is a lot of activity during the practices and games. We want to ensure your child's safety. Never leave your child at the game or practice if you cannot be there. Also, please only park in designated parking areas, as the city will tow illegally parked vehicles.
If you have any questions, please email us at info@smyrnatball.com,.
